What is This? - 7 replies

Does anyone know what this is called or what it is used for? It has sharp spiral flutes and it is 24mm diameter and 12” long. I thought it might be some kind of medical drill or reamer. I was thinking of cutting it short and using it for a wood cutter in the mill. Thanks…Cheers….Jim

Grizzly 4 Jaw wood turning chuck- jaw retention pin solution - 9 replies

I had posted a topic on this chuck before with a stepped pin as to the solution to this problem of the roll pin ( that keeps the jaws from coming out of the body) from backing up. I bought another one of these chucks (P/N H6267 ) and found an easier way of stopping that roll pin from backing up.I removed the backing plate and put a short...

Boring hole in bowls and hollow vessels - 21 replies

When ever I make a bowl, I start the inside by drilling a hole down to where the bottom of the inside will be and that serves as a gauge spot for me. I usually use a 1/2” twist drill with a handle on it and I have a stop fixed on the drill to set the depth. Some people I have seen use Forstner bits to make that first bore. Both of these hea...

Affordable indexing wheel for wood lathe - 16 replies

A lot of the lathes I’ve worked on don’t have any built in means of indexing or have pretty poor or limited ones.I ran across this indexing setup on E bay and it is pretty cheap ($60) for what you get. I made a wheel on the back of my lathe with 72 holes in it but I find that if I want to do 5 or 10 holes, I had to make a separate w...

Beware of the Pulleys for Harbor Freight lathe #34706 - 34 replies

I have had pulley breaking problems on the Reeves drive 34706 Harbor Freight lathe I use in Arizona. The latest one is the right drive pulley on the motor. I ordered and receive my new pulleys but it seem that the keyway is cut off location in one of them ( I suspect the left one since the right pulley had a keyway cut in the center of the bos...

Grizzly 4 Jaw Wood Turning Chuck - 17 replies

I have 2 Grizzly H6265 Wood Lathe Chucks and I talked the high school into buying a couple. Well we have only one now and it was almost scrapped, too. The first one had a jaw come out and someone threw it away with the chips and a set of jaws costs as much as a new chuck. I found the second one today with a jaw out of it and the problem is that ...

Loose battery cover on a Nikon Camera - 12 replies

I have 3 Nikon L5 cameras and I love that camera because it is so simple to use and can take close ups very well and video. The one I was using had a loose battery cover and I planned on wiring it to a 3V DC power supply and using it strictly for video. I bought another one on E bay and it has a loose, cracked and chipped out battery cover ( tha...
