We built a new deck last summer. It is a two tear design. At the bottom of the stair I decided we needed a light. So I built this little lighthouse to show me the way. Built of birch ply and painted, something I don’t normally do. Cutting the staves (compound miter) was a bit of a trick, but managed. The light is a common solar powered garden light that just sits in the top. Easy to replace if need be. Might not be much light, but not much is really needed.
Been a while since I posted anything. Just have not had much shop time since building the new house…....

I like it. Very cool idea and will help to see the way.

I really like the way your lighthouse looks.
How tall is it?

I have wanted to build one of those too but just haven’t gotten around to it!
My idea was to simulate the rotating beam with a number of LEDs.

Let your light shine before men. It will do the job.

Love it Brian. We have a lot of lighthouses near where I live and they really are picturesque. Your idea of using one for a terrace light is a good way to add some atmosphere and also a little lighting.
